Wedding Dress Alteration Process & Terms

The Process Explained

You're getting married — and we’re here to make sure your dress fits like a dream. Alterations shouldn’t be stressful. With a little planning, a few fittings, and some pinning wizardry, we’ll shape your gown to your unique silhouette and style.

This page explains how we work, what to expect, and how you can plan ahead to get the most from your fittings. Let’s create that WOW moment together.

A Comfortable Timeline: 9 to 12 Weeks

We recommend you reach out to us at least 9 weeks before the wedding. This gives us time for:

  • 👗 3 fittings

  • ⏰ 3 weeks between fittings

Some dresses just need one fitting, but the average is 3. Need a faster turnaround? Let’s chat. We might be able to accommodate urgent work depending on our schedule — but we’ll only say yes if we know we can do your dress justice.

What Happens at Each Fitting

First Fitting

This is where we pin the dress directly to your body — the best way to ensure a perfect fit. We’ll talk about:

  • How you want the dress to fit

  • Train, neckline, silhouette

  • Custom changes: sleeves, embellishments, backline, etc.

NB: Your dress should be slightly larger than your size so we can tailor it down.

Second & Third Fittings – Refine and Finalise

These fittings fine-tune everything. Bring your wedding shoes, undergarments, and accessories — they impact fit and feel.

💬 Not 100% happy yet? Don’t panic, that’s why we do multiple fittings. We’re here to tweak until it’s right.

Honest Talk:

What Can (and Can’t) Be Done

We’ll always do our very best to make your dress look amazing — but we’re also working with the original design and quality of the dress you bring in.

If there are tricky seams, lower-quality stitching, or challenging design features, we’ll have an open and honest conversation with you about what’s realistically possible.

All bodies are beautifully unique! Natural differences (like hips or shoulders sitting differently) can sometimes cause the dress to not hang perfectly straight. If you know of any asymmetries, please let us know before we start — it really helps us plan for the best result.

No matter what, we’ll always work with you to find the best solution!
